Originally issued on VHS only in 1987 (the DVD came in 1999), the first video Metallica video release serves as a tribute to late original bassist Cliff Burton and is of great tribute to the incredible talent and truly unique personality that he was. “Cliff ‘Em All” is a raw collection of performances from 1983 to 1986, and has the distinction of being the only “official” DVD/video release featuring the genius playing of Burton. Moreover, Dave Mustaine appears on a few songs and there is some great narration by the remaining band members, as well as some interviews with the band. Most of the footage is from bootleg videos, home videos and there is some stuff shot for TV that was never aired, and the overall quality is very poor (shot in the pre-iPhone era!), but it captures in a brilliant way an early Metallica era. Released in 1998, “Cunning Stunts” was filmed in Fort Worth, Texas on May 9-10 1997 during the “Poor Touring Me” Tours that promoted “Load” (and eventually “Re-Load”). This was an era where Metallica continued to push boundaries musically as well a with their concert experience they delivered for fans, as evidenced here in this film. It would be the first project the band shot in hi-def specifically for DVD, and the outstanding picture and sound quality combined with some amazing pyrotechnics and a 360 degree stage in the middle of the arena make this an unforgettable performance. In this classic drama, Vicky Page (Moira Shearer) is an aspiring ballerina torn between her dedication to dance and her desire to love. After record producer Swan (Paul Williams) steals the music of songwriter Winslow Leach (William Finley) and gives it to one of his bands, Leach sneaks into Swan's offices. Catching Leach, Swan frames him for dealing drugs, which lands him in prison. After Leach breaks out and again attempts to sabotage Swan's empire, an accident crushes his face. Delphine (Catherine Deneuve) and Solange (Françoise Dorléac) are twin sisters who each want to find romance and leave their small seaside town of Rochefort, France.
